“The Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception”

The article "The Culture Industry:Enlightenment as Mas Deception"was a good read. I agree with the point that they make saying that all art has become a business and they leave no room for the viewer to wonder. It is all done for them. In the article it says that “As soon as the film begins, it is quite clear how it will end, and who will be rewarded, punished, or forgotten” (Adorno, Horkheimer 5) I completely 100% agree with this. Go into any movie and you already know what is going to happen in the first few minutes of it. I think that this comment was made in class but it would be nice to see a change. All of them are the same. Same goes for car companies. They make the same brand car but add a fancy gadget on it and there you have it a new model. There is a saying “Same sh** different toilet” All movies have the same idea where the guy sweeps the girl off her feet or the rapist is caught in the end of the movie and justice is served. It says “under monopoly all mass culture is identical.”

It also speaks about performers belonging to the industry long before they become popular. A new singer that is new on the scene has no choice but to conform to their labels likings or else he or she will be dropped. After they have established a name for themselves then they branch out and do things their own way as they initially would have.

As a society we adapt to these norms and don’t question it as much as we should.
