The Iron Heel by Jack London

“The Iron Heel” by Jack London is about oligarchy ruling and being in power. Ernest is the voice of the people who makes their stories heard. He tells Avis about the stories and Avis decides to go and visit one of the victims. She goes to visit Jackson and sees with her own eyes what working with the machines has done to his arm. Monopoly is being played and even the Bishop ends near the bottom along with the German lady who works for a few cents per trouser she sews. She has lost a daughter to those machines and can not bear to go back and work there. She will make more money if she works there but each time she gets near a machine she hears, “I did it, I did it.” She can’t handle that thought of loosing her child at a place she works at. So she has no other choice but to work for those measly few cents per hour. She has to settle for working for the higher people for a lower amount.

“The Iron Heel” by Jack London is a great read and I recommend it to anyone who wants to read more about this topic.
